General Info

The BM 125F is the latest, and by far the grandest big lure in the ECOGEAR premium hard bait range.  Like all lures from the ECOGEAR stable, the BM 125F went through the toughest possible tests over many months to produce a strong and relaiable big casting lure. The internatioanl range of BM 125F comes in eight colours to fish a wide range of conditions.
The BM has been designed with the help of Australian anglers in difficult high pressure waters. It is made for the cast and retrieve angler fishing towards structure (weed, timber, shallow banks, rocks, shallow flats) but doubles as an excellent trolling lure when the fish move towards the top of the water collum.

Target Fish

Barramundi, mangrove jacks, and when fished over reefs, snapper and fish that live on the reef.

Target Areas
Fresh Water Impoundments - this lure is a shallow diving jerk-bait that has a very pronounced body roll. Its design allows the angler to cast this lure to a variety of structure types like – timbered shorelines and bays, shallow flats, weeded banks and bays, gentle sloping banks and ‘skinny water’.
Salt Water – much like the MW range, the BM can be put to the test on the toughest saltwater species. This lure is excellent for casting towards snags in the river systems, fishing small ‘gut ways’ in the runoff, fishing over flats at the mouths of creek or river systems and fishing to shallow reef or rock structures.
Swimming Action
Slow floating with a very pronounced body roll – intense rattle
Retrieve Technique
1. Retrieve Technique for Saltwater Rocky & Reef Areas
Much like fishing shallow flats, but reefy areas are best fished after dark and very slow retrieves. Try occasionally banging the lure hard into the bottom with a faster erratic retrieve to entice fish into striking.
2. Retrieve Technique for Salwater Snag Structures
Cast the BM as close as possible to the structure as possible, then work the lure past the structure with a slow twitchy rod tip action for best results.
3. Retrieve Technique for Saltwater Flats
Lng repetitive casts, working the lure across the shallows, targeting gaps in the weed or subtle depth changes in the bottom. Slow constant retrieves with the occasional pause to allow the lure to rise to the surface works well. Erratic downward tip movements of the rod with constant pauses works. Constant changing of techniques between very slow to erratic retrieves is needed to catch barra.
3. Retrieve Technique for Freshwater "Skinny Water"
Shallow, narrow creeks / gut-ways – cast the lure to any available fish holding structure ahead of the boat and always retrieve the lure in the direction of the current. Look for subtle depth or current changes where barra and jacks hold. Slow constant retrieve – just enough winding to swim the lure towards the boat or very erratic swimming actions also work
4. Retrieve Technique for Freshwater Weed

When fishing weed edges or weeded bays, it important to cast the lure as close as possible to the weed before commencing your retrieve. At times the longer you allow the lure to stay stationary, allows the barra to stage underneath the lure and quiet often the lure will be taken off the surface or on the first of the retrieve. Look for gaps or alleys in the weed beds where fish are likely to hold, repetitive cast to theses areas usually produces results. (Bait-fish eat weed and use it for cover – barra eat bait-fish and hang around this type of structure) Slow, very slow retrieves usually work best around this type of structure.

5. Retrieve Technique for Freshwater Timber
in some dams, barra like to hold tight to timber. Timbered areas are great ambush areas for barra and due to the algae growing on the bases of the submerged timber makes it a haven for bait-fish. During daylight hours, target shadows given off by the timber. Erratic, downward rod movements allowing your lure to float back to the top will get bites around timber.
6. Retrieve Technique for Shallow Flats and Gentle Sloping Bays
Thease are key areas when targeting barra in fresh water impoundments. These areas generally heat-up faster that deeper banks and usually have a good covering of weed and algae along the bottom which holds large amounts of bait-fish. Target theses areas with slow repetitive casts covering the entire flat or bank. Occasionally, try a faster retrieve or surface popper (TP88).
7. Trolling in Freshwater Impoundments and Lakes

The BM125F is an excellent trolling lure when the fish are feeding towards the surface. Set the lure around 40m behind the boat and troll with the electric motor rather than the petrol motor.

Recommended Outfit

Bait Casting Combos – around 20lb

Colour Choice
As a general rule, use natural baitfish colours on fine days and in clear water, and bright colours on overcast days and in muddy waters.
